AIR, maybe one of the most sought-after gases. Without it we would die a most certain death. What is our air comprised of? It is made of 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen and trace amounts of other elements from our environment. So, what does this have to do with the farming communities and the agriculture world at large? A LOT. Farmers are not only the world’s producers of our foods, but they also play a vital role in the cleansing and purifying of our air. Who knew, right! Farmers are at the head of so many movements for our future survival! I have always been in awe of the farmer. What he/she has been able to do with a single seed. Just wow. It is such a worthwhile pursuit and one that deserves accolades. So thank you, farmers of America, thank you for all you do, Including improving our air quality.
What affects the air we breathe- well most certainly we are seeing an elevated level of contaminated air from all of the industrial waste and air pollution, fuels and hydrocarbons that are being pumped into our atmosphere. What cleans this dirty and polluted air? Trees and living plants- that’s what. They give us oxygen and store carbon, reducing the greenhouse effect caused by elevated CO2 levels. They also purify the air we breathe and it is now surmised that the microorganisms in our potted plants’ soils also have a part to play in purifying our indoor air. So, I will extrapolate out that if the microorganisms in the soils of potted plants can clean our indoor air then land and soils in our fields and plains can do just the same. Again the farmer comes to our rescue. With his/her ethical practices of sustainable and regenerative farming practices they restore not only the Earth’s microcosm of microorganisms in our soils, increase the capacity of the land to hold water, but now also clean our AIR. What more valuable of a pursuit is there! To you, farmers of America, my hat goes off to you and my heartfelt thanks.
